What are Charter Schools?

  • The 1995 revision of the Texas Education Code established a new type of public school, known as a charter school.
  • Charter schools were developed to allow for innovative teaching methods.
  • Like all school districts, charter schools are monitored and accredited under the statewide testing and accountability system.

What is the purpose of a charter school?

According to the Texas Education Code, the purposes of charter schools are to:

  • improve student learning;
  • increase the choice of learning opportunities within the public school system;
  • create professional opportunities that will attract new teachers to the public school system;
  • establisha new form of accountability for public schools; and
  • encourage different and innovative learning methods.

What will MeadowLand Charter School do that is different than a regular public school?

The MeadowLand Charter School will provide a safe, structured, and consistent environment where students can succeed academically. Our philosophy is that all children can achieve educational success if provided the right options. A Personalized Education Plan will be completed at admission to create an educational plan to overcome weaknesses so they can graduate and can include a therapeutic component for behavioral issues.

What kind of teachers will be at the MeadowLand Charter School?

All MeadowLand Charter School teachers will be Special Education Certified and class sizes will no more than 12 to 1, and all instruction will be delivered in a manner that:

  • Makes a connection between each student's interests and required learning
  • Builds on the academic strengths of each student
  • Provides multiple ways to learn
  • Encourages independence
  • Provides real world experiences and problems
  • Makes connections between core courses

What grades will be included at the MeadowLand Charter School?

In 2008 the MeadowLand Charter School will enroll up to 120 students in grades 9-12.

Who can go to the school?

We will admit any student that resides in the Boerne Independent School District boundaries up to our stated classroom sizes. We will be specilizing in educational services for at-risk students. Students have the option of participating in counseling services offered by MeadowLand staff.

Is there a fee for community kids to go to this school?

No, the charter school is a public school.
